Is there any aftermarket shops where you can pass emissions with no cat?

Re: Passing Emissions in Colorado with no Cat? (MTZ8)

Get a 'fake' cat that doesn't have the internals. I 've passed with lots of vehicles that didn't have real cats, but passed the visual and the tailpipe sniffer (what really matters past what it puts out??). I've never ever heard of a station inspecting an actual cat.

You will not pass in the metro area anymore without a cat on the car.
Believe me I have tried on multiple of my own cars or customers.
When they removed etests in the rest of the state, they tighened the metro area emissions. And what you could do with a car in the past, no longer comes even close to working

Yep, no cat, no pass, even with a fake looking hollow cat, the car wont pass once its on the rollers.
It is possible to register cars in counties where you do not need an emission test........

i passed my mk1 in boulder with no cat, an aba block and a bvh completely built. it is slammed to the ground so they couldnt even see the test pipe. i actually passed twice cuz my gas cap didnt seal the first time.

My wife's 1.8t bug failed Denver emissions terribly with an APR high flow cat. I had Randy at APS throw in the stock cat and it passed with flying colors. I doubt you'd pass Denver emissions unless you have some decent cat in the system.

Re: (MtnVariant)

i've heard of cars passing w/o cat and hfc's, but it's the minority. throwing the stocker back on is the best bet.
don't let your car sit for a long time. the cat works best when it's baking hot. hit air care early so you're first in line. keep the engine running till they ask to shut it off.

Re: (Freeride)

My 1.8t didn't pass with a bad APR high flow cat. It was shot, you could see through it. I replaced it with a new Magnaflow cat and it passed no problems.
I think the older cars may get away with it as long as it is tuned up and running well. Although, if your car came with a cat from the factory they should be doing a visual inspection to make sure it is there. I doubt the newer cars can pass without a cat. I'm sure the requirements are stricter for the newer cars than the older ones. That's why they tell you when you do a motor swap that the car needs to meet the requirements of the newer part, whether its the motor or the chassis.

Was this recently, or awhile ago?

Look at the bright side of the tailpipe, well not so bright but in November the entire state will be part of the smog program and we will all have to pass. Just a heads up if you aren't following that sort of thing. Better round up those stock exhaust systems and keep them handy!

They keep saying that but some places still are dropping the emissions. If they are going to emission everything they need to be able to test it how its drivin on the street.....They make me pull my tires and put smaller ones on and different wheels on the cars...lift it up...What a f'n joke.
